The Vets welcomed old adversaries Dukinfield to Manor Park expecting a hard and physical game as that is the norm.
Oldham’s pack was immense and pushed Dukinfield off the ball time and time again in the scrum and in the line out Dom Hall
was superb winning our ball and theirs. The vets backs were also allowed time and space to play with good ball handling and great technique from the backs.
Oldham forged up field with wave after wave of flowing rugby, Rob Froggatt
opened the scoring with a well taken try shortly followed by his second of the game breaking the Dukinfield defence and scoring under the posts. Froggatt converted both Tries.
was next to cross the line , again Dukinfields defence could not stop the strong running of the Oldham backs and Pickles smashed through to score in the corner, and before half time Craig Geddes
chased a great kick from Nick McDowell
,the ball bounced favorably for Geddes and he collected the ball and touched down under the post. Froggatt converted.
The game was all Oldham as half time came with the score standing at 26 - 0.
Oldham re-gathered and played basic precise rugby for the rest of the game. The second half went much the same way with Oldham dominating and enjoying their game. Oldham scored three more tries, Paddy Farnan
showed great determination on his return to the team to crash over for a great forwards try, Froggatt got on the end of a great backs move to score his third of the game and Pickles getting a well-deserved second try, one try converted by Ryan Barker
and one by Froggatt.
Great performances from many players Mark Hodge
had a great first half, Froggatt scoring three tries and four conversion and Hall being every were on the pitch but man of the match went to Chris Pickles
with two tries and great link up play was well deserved.
