ORUFC 1st XV v Littleborough RUFC 1st XV
ORUFC First XV ruin Littleborough’s hot streak
A SUPERB Performance by Oldham 1st XV brought Littleborough’s 18-match winning streak to a halt with a 29-17 triumph at Manor Park in North Lancashire Division One.
Guy Lovgreen’s side climbed to fourth in the table courtesy of four well-worked tries, which mustered a bonus point.
Lessons were learned from the reverse fixture in November, when the forwards were outplayed in Littleborough’s 22-6 success.
This time Oldham looked like a proper unit, aided by the return to the pack of Chris Heptonstall and Ross Cooper, who provide vital experience and organisational skills.
The league leaders went in front after 12 minutes through winger Mark Goldthorpe’s try.
Oldham hit back just before the half hour mark. Gareth Barber, capping a fine team move by going over after good work from man of the match Rob Froggatt assisted by Phil Graham. Josh Brown added the conversion while Barber retired due to a hamstring injury which will keep him out of the final 3 matches of the season.
Three minutes later Oldham scored again with Andy Gorey feeding Jason Green who crossed in the corner.
Littleborough hit back with Goldthorpe adding his second try which was converted to make the halftime score 12-12.
Two minutes after the break Jordan McEwan and Ryan North combined to set up Cooper for a try, converted for Brown.
Shortly after Goldthorpe completed his hat-trick with an unconverted try.
The hosts controlled possession and good play from the pack allowed Nick Hackman to crash over. Again Brown converted.
Brown kicked a last minute penalty to seal a memorable triumph for Oldham.
