It is with deep regret that I write this about the sad loss of our 1st team captain John Derrick. Simply known as JD, John was an immensely popular player not only within our club but equally with teams who played against us. Whilst his attitude and commitment could never be questioned and he played every game to win, it was never with a 'win at all costs' mentality, he played the game as it should be played.

The JD we knew off the field was a kind, generous, supportive man who made time for all. It is obvious in many of the fitting tributes already written this week that all who had met John felt the same. He was a beloved husband, son, father, brother,grandfather, friend and gentlemen. It was an honour and a privilege to have known him and call him a friend.

RIP JD. You will be missed.
