Youth Player of the Year
The clubs Player of the Year Dinner was held at the Clubhouse on Saturday 26th May where the Senior and Youth awards were distributed.
For a number of years, most of the youth awards have been presented on a separate evening during their own presentation evening, but with ongoing efforts to bring the youth section closer to the seniors, it was decided that all youth awards would be presented during the clubs official Player of the Year Dinner.
The evening started with a welcome by club Chairman Humphrey Evans which was soon followed by some preliminary awards to youth players and to other individuals to recognise their support for the youth.
Youth to Senior Awards - Joshua Crew, Jamie Knight, Darryl Hayton and Andrew Smith
Recognition Awards - John Wrangham, Darryl Williams, Darren Parry, Lyndon Crew and Gerry Thomas
Everyone helped themselves to the buffet that was cooked and served by the Steward and Stewardess of Aberdare Golf Club. The food was something different to the cooked dinner that usually gets served but the meats, pasta, rice and salads were much welcomed with the heat and amount of people that were squeezed into the upstairs function room.
Comedian Colin Price took to the stage for an hour to provide some light entertainment, which was received well by all.
The Youth Awards came next and all awards except the Player of the Year award were presented.
Captains Tankard - Ieuan Hames
Selectors Award - Daniel Beynon
Clubman of the Year - Andrew Smith
Most Improved Player of the Year - Adam Parry
Most Promising Player of the year - Christopher Mackie
Players Player of the Year - Jamie Price
The Athletic XV and First XV awards followed and the evening ended with presentations to each of the teams Player of the Year.
Youth Player of the Year - Jamie Price
Athletic XV Player of the Year – Paul Bevan
First XV Player of the Year – Daniel Lewis
Nobody seemed to disagree with any of the youth awards and the night went on until the early hours downstairs in the David Young Lounge.
A very successful evening celebrating an excellent season for the youth which will no doubt be the foundation for many strong and spectacular years to come.
