Match results and young players

Abergavenny Ladies got the week off to a good start with a resounding victory in their league game at Panteg House. They won on all three rinks to win the game by 62 shots to 33, gaining the maximum of ten league points.

Judi Belli’s rink took the initiative from the start, gaining a comfortable lead. This lead was then reduced by their opponents but the Abergavenny rink sealed their victory by scoring five points on the penultimate end to win by 24 shots to 14. After establishing an early lead, Ceri Clark’s rink was never behind in their match. They went on to build on their early lead to win by 18 shots to 12. On the final rink, Abergavenny never let their opponents get into the game and went on to record an easy victory by 20 shots to seven.

It was a different story when Abergavenny men’s team travelled to Abertillery for their MBA game. Although they were beaten on all four rinks, it was by one shot only on two of the four rinks. This was the first league defeat of the season as they lost by 93 shots to 66.

The rink of Robert Poynter was involved in a very close game, which was only decided by the final bowl of the game. The final bowl by the Abergavenny skip just failed to secure the shot by the smallest of margins. This allowed the Abertillery rink to count the one shot needed to win by 21 shots to 20. Matthew vale’s rink was in command of their game for the first fifteen ends. The Abertillery rink then reversed the situation over the final six ends, winning by 25 shots to 24.

On the rinks of Anthony Moriarty and Gethin Hill the games were closely contested for the first ten ends. On both rinks the Abertillery teams took control of the games during the third quarter and went on to inflict defeat on the Abergavenny rinks by 23 shots to 12 and 24 shots to 10 respectively.

This week the Abergavenny men’s team play against Newbridge at Avenue Road in the MBA and travel to Caldicot for an EMBA fixture. The ladies welcome Pontyfelin to Avenue Road for a league fixture.

On a different note - half term brought the opportunity for some young people to come to the club and use some of our new equipment. They enjoyed their games and hopefully we will get some new members for the club
