Abergavenny’s u9 hockey team travelled to Whitchurch recently to take part in the South Wales tournament.

It was end-to-end action in their first game against Cardiff with some great saves by new goalkeeper James Pass. Cerys Williams and Seth Butler connected in the midfield allowing Seth Butler to score for Abergavenny and win the match 1-0.

The second game of the day was against the might of Gwent and despite some fantastic defensive work from Eliza Church and Katherine Pass Aber where unable to keep Gwent out. Midfield Mali Price and Hannah Nuttal battled hard but, where unable to make any headway and Aber lost 0-4.

Harry Williams pulled on the goalkeeper gloves for the next game. Abergavenny started strongly and the midfield of Mali Price and Hannah Nuttal worked well pushing Abergavenny forward and creating space for Cerys and Seth to work the ball into the circle. Despite the fantastic play by all the team they were no match for the likes of Whitchurch who beat them 0-4.

Swansea was an excellent game and despite Abergavenny enjoying the lion’s share of possession the final score didn’t reflect this. The defence of Eliza Church and Katherine Pass where constantly bombarded by the Swansea attack, which was always going to pay dividends for the seasides who went on to, win the game 0-4.

The final game of the tournament saw Abergavenny return to face Gwent and once again they suffered a similar fate to the previous match.

Well done to all who played.
