Renewed energy and determination
Pembroke 1 Abergavenny 1
Abergavenny Ladies Hockey team left the snow behind when they travelled to Milford Haven for this week’s league game against Pembroke. Abergavenny came home with a 1-1 draw – a result that all ten players should be proud of!
Going into the match Abergavenny were down to 10 men and with players out of position took time to settle. The home side took advantage of this and along with quick passing scored an early goal.
Abergavenny at this point found another gear and with strong defence from Beth Cook and Jenny Curran ensured that Pembroke were not rewarded for their quick passing again. During the first half Abergavenny battled hard as a team, and were unlucky not to be rewarded for their effort.
Straight from the restart Abergavenny attacked hard with Charlie Haydock and Alex Jones battling hard to drive Abergavenny forward. Some great passing up the right wing from Kate Amwack and Charlie Haydock crossing the ball to find Pat Harrison waiting on the back post. Abergavenny were rewarded with a goal from Pat Harrison the second in just two games.
This renewed energy and confidence continued and Abergavenny continued to drive forward. For all the effort Abergavenny were awarded two penalty corners – well struck balls from Becky Pass and Beth Cook were unable to find the back of the net this time.
Pembroke continued to attack down the right side of the pitch but the well placed defence of Kate Powell, Kate Awmack and Becky Pass were able to close down the play.
Quick feet from new keeper Sharon Phillips ensured Pembroke didn’t find the back of the net.
Switchin the ball across the pitch to Holly Belcher and Beth Cook who in turn started a counter attack, despite excellent passing and spatial awareness by the whole team Abergavenny where unable to add further goals.
Man of the Match Sharon Phillips for the second time since Christmas.
With renewed energy and determination Abergavenny are looking forward to building on this week’s strong performance. Next week Abergavenny are home to Milford Haven.
Training Thursday night 8.30 – 9.30 all welcome
