Abergavenny Hockey Club has received a grant to set up a brand new Men's Development team.

Abergavenny Hockey Club has been given a financial fillip to help set up a new mens development team aimed at retaining its youth players during the transition period between youth and senior hockey.

Abergavenny Hockey Club has received £750 from Persimmon Homes East Wales to launch the new side.

The club already has nine junior teams from under-nine to under-15 for both boys and girls, as well as an under-18 girls’ team and senior teams.

The Persimmon donation, which came as part of the builder’s Community Champions scheme, was spent on a brand new kit for the new team.

On Saturday Morning, the development team were invited to the launch of the new Showhome at ‘The Meadows’ where the boys were presented with their new kit. The boys were also invited to take part in the Hockey Wales ‘#Hocktober’ campaign by attempting several hockey challenges set up by the building site manager.

Nicholas Fackrell, of the club, said: “We are extremely grateful to Persimmon Homes East Wales for this most generous donation.
“We have been really keen to launch an under-18 boys’ team to help bridge the gap between junior and senior hockey.

“This is another step forward for the club. It’s fabulous news.”
The Persimmon Community Champions initiative is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves. Nationwide the company will donate a total of £750,000.

Victoria Williams, Head of Sales at Persimmon Homes East Wales, said: “We’re delighted to be able to support such a great club.

“I’m sure there will be plenty of people keen to join the new team and we’re pleased to have helped them achieve that goal.

“Our Community Champions scheme is now six months old but we still have thousands of pounds to give away.

“If people were unsuccessful last month we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next Community Champion.”

Persimmon East Wales has developments across the region, including The Meadows in Llanfoist, Abergavenny, where there are two, three and four bedroom homes available to suit all needs.
