12 of the Hockey Club’s young coaches and volunteers today attended a Hockey Wales 4689 course in Abergavenny.

This course was organised by Laura James, Sport Development Officer at Abergavenny Leisure Centre and the course was delivered by Hockey Wales.

4689 is a progressive hockey format, starting with 4 v 4, moving to 6 v 6, 8 v 8 and finally 9v9. 4689 is aimed at attracting new young players into the game and allows them to gain more time on the ball. A size of ball is used which moves slightly slower and is easier for younger players to see and connect with.

Abergavenny Hockey Club is very proud of its young umpires and coaches who regularly support the senior coaches at junior training and also at club fun days and events. The membership at Abergavenny hockey club is always increasing and this is mostly thanks to the effort that all of our volunteers invest in our club.

If you are interested in joining our coaching team then we would really like to hear from you. We try our best to ensure that our volunteer coaches get a valuable experience and are not just asked to collect the balls or set out the cones. We try to ensure that our young coaches develop their skills by offering them a chance to attend a suitable course and gain relevant qualifications at an appropriate level. If you would like to volunteer with our club then please speak to any of our senior coaches at training or contact Nick Fackrell.

Well done to Millie West Jones, Mali Atkins, Alex Round, Josephine Hurry, Megan Nicholls, Ellen Johns, Hannah Parry-Jones, Natasha Morgan, Maddie Roberts, Daniel Taylor, Kieran Rees and Alex Kennet for completing this course.
