Abergavenny men search hard for 3 points this week vs Cardiff and UWIC on home soil. Whilst the Ladies XI take on Cardiff.

Abergavenny’s men have guaranteed their safety in South Wales Division two this season with 3 games to spare. The mission is ongoing for Abergavenny to push towards the end of the season, making sure that they finish strongly. Abergavenny push towards their aim to gain another 3 points from the final games vs Cardiff, Whitchurch and Carew.
The Abergavenny men hope to continue their ruthless effort this week having previously rubbed salt into the relegation wounds of Neath with a 6 – 0 away drubbing at the opposition’s Neath Abbey Road turf.
Abergavenny face Cardiff and UWIC on Saturday; a side who are currently positioned 2 places above Abergavenny in the Davis Wood Hockey League but have not picked up a single point from their last 3 fixtures.
The Blue and Gold side will look to target this loss of form, especially as the game will be on home sand at Old Hereford Road. The team have looked strong under the new Luke Rees / Peter Hewinson leadership which has provided the squad with fresh ideas and a renewed energy. Abergavenny must use this enthusiasm to ensure that the usual Cardiff suspects of Steve Sparkes and Chris Jackson are marked for the entire game, whilst the optimistic Abergavenny front line must look to continue the good work having scored 9 goals in the last 2 games.
Some stats for inspiration: Alex Schofield only needs a brace to reach double figures for the season and the forwards only need to net another 5 goals to bring their season’s tally to 50, whilst the backs have to-date conceded 27 goals less than they had last season and must look to build up the blue and gold wall and support ever improving keeper Luke Rees.
The men will aim to arrive early and support the improving ladies side in their final game of the season vs Cardiff. Last week the Blue and Gold ladies put in a relentless effort to frustrate Brecon, only losing 2 goals to nil but with just 10 players throwing in everything that they had to maintain their local rivalry and reputation.
Both Games are at home with the ladies pushing back at 10:00 with the men’s XI following on with a 12:00 pushback.
Good luck to both teams as they don the Blue and Gold this Saturday.
