For the whole of this season we have fielded 2 U13 girls teams into the South Wales Youth hockey competitive structure. Providing all players the opportunity to take part in competitive hockey allows the newer, less experienced players, to play alongisde and perhaps learn from, their more experience team-mates.

Throughout the season both teams have been tenacious in their play and to say they are difficult to break down is an understatement.

The theme and tone of this section is one of fun and enjoyment whilst striving to display competitive on-pitch performances.

The culmination of the season for the squad was the cup tournaments. South Wales cup qualification arrived in early April and the girls came through that with minimal fuss, leading onto the South Wales cup tournament at the end of April.

This proved to be a tough affair. Matches against Swansea, Whitchurch and Gwent saw the old adage that "every goal counts" be more evident than ever. Tournament officials duly did their sums and announced......that Abergavenny were South Wales champions!

So began the trip to Wrexham in early May for the Welsh cup finals. Performances throughout of unparalleled quality saw us win every match against teams from all over Wales, and not a single goal was conceded on the day. This time no calculators were required; Abergavenny were crowned Welsh champions!

This is the first time in club history that this section has won a cup, so to win 2 in the same season is something that this squad can be very proud of!
