Abermule 3 - 1 Dolgellau
Entertaining win for the Mule
Dolgellau arrived on the weekend, 3 points ahead of us in the league table.
With a 16 man squad, Nick Mumby reverted to right back as Ricky Davies and Drew Cook remained at the heart of the defence. Will Denham dropped back into midfield with Rob Bayliss while the returning Charlie Humphreys joined Dave Anthony up front.
Abermule made all the early running and we deservedly found ourselves in front when Dave Anthony intercepted a poor back pass to notch his 8th of the season. Will Denham and Dave again tested the visiting goal keeper before against the run of play; Dolgellau made it 1-1 after a long free kick was not dealt with at the back.
We continued to create chances throughout the 1st half, Dave bent a 25 yard effort just wide, Tommy Jones shot over from 20 yards with Charlie Humphreys headed wide from 6 yards after a good ball from Tommy. Will Denham tried a back heel after a well worked free kick but was denied by the offside flag. At the other end, Drew Cook and Ricky Davies kept the lively front two of Dolgellau quite in the main with some good defending. Half time 1-1
We continued where we left off in the 2nd half, Tommy hitting the post with a 20 yard volley after some good work from Charlie.
The game then turned on the 60th minute, Nick Mumby broke down the right and there was a coming together with a Dolgellau player, as the two players squared up to each other, Nick was punched and went to ground. To our dismay, the referee sent both players off and we were to continue 10 vs 10.
Only 5 minutes later we found ourselves back in the lead. Ricky Davies and Will Denham managed to find room for Drew Cook on the wing to cross for Charlie Humphreys, his first effort was saved by the Dolgellau keeper but he kept his cool to nod home the rebound. Tommy Jones was then found by a good through ball by Rob Bayliss but he shot wide.
At the other end, Lewis Jones made a good double save on 75 minutes before clearing up field where Charlie beat the defence to the 2nd ball, threading a ball through to Dave Anthony who lobbed the keeper from 20 yards for his 2nd of the afternoon.
Lewis was called into action once again as an overhead kick from 5 yards out was spectacularly turned around the post by the young stopper. From the resulting corner, Robert Bayliss cleared off the line before making way for Ryan Groves who was making his debut for the club after recently signing from Kerry.
Dan Owen raced through only minutes after replacing Charlie but he shot wide and Dolgellau had another effort just wide before the referee brought the game to an end.
