Century stand keep Academy unbeaten in Section 2

A century stand between Andre Halbert and Mark Shields laid the foundation for the 1st XI's first home win of the season.

Recently relegated Donaghcloney came to The Castle with a strong side and posted 180-9 after being asked to bat by Matthew Palmer.

Home skipper Matthew Palmers decision to field seemed to back fire when the much travelled Charlie McCrum (60) and Cloney professional Mansing Nigade (50) kept the scoreboard ticking. The Academy bowlers plugged away with Waqas Mohammad producing his best figures for the club so far with 4 for 35 off his 10 overs. He was well supported by spin bowling duo Andre Halbert (2 for 22 off 10) and David Greenlees (2 for 22 off 8). A 'sharp' piece of fielding off the last ball from Andrew Magee ran out McCrum to maintain Academys momentum going into the second innings.

In reply the first XI got off to a quick fire start with Halbert setting the tone hooking the first ball of the innings for four over mid-wicket. The boundaries came quickly before Magee (16) was caught behind in the 4th over bringing Shields to the crease. This partnership of 142 between Halbert (90) and Shields (60*) saw Academy to a second win of the season by 8 wickets.

Matthew Palmers men now entertain Drumaness at The Castle starting at 1pm and all support is once again encouraged.

A reminder that entries are now being taken for the Fantasy World Cup fund raiser. For the chance to win £500 get in touch with David Greenlees ASAP.
