Acklam recover from an awful start to win a resounding victory in a try fest

Acklam recovered from an awful start to win a resounding 57 -32 victory over Darlington in a thoroughly entertaining try fest of a game.
Acklam ran the ball from the kick off but after they knocked on in midfield Darlington attacked and missed tackles enabled the visitors to score under the posts for an immediate lead. Things got worse for Acklam a few minutes later when Darlington broke away for another try to put them nil 12 up after only 7 minutes. Acklam gradually pulled themselves together and in the 11th minute from a line out a good short ball from stand off Danny Ashton put centre Chris Walker crashing through to score a very welcome try, converted to reduce the arrears to 7 -12. Midway through the half Acklam were penalised for holding on and Darlington kicked the penalty to give them some breathing space at 7 - 15.
However, Acklam were now playing much better and after another line out outside centre Andy Dunn made a lovely arcing run to score wide out, well converted by Ashton to cut the arrears to 14 15. Then deep into first half injury time following good Acklam support play the ball was recycled and reached Ashton who showed a mercurial touch to chip over the defence and gather his own kick for a super try under the posts. After trailing for virtually all the first half Acklam turned around with a 21 - 15 lead.
Getting in front seemed to inspire the home side and straight after the restart the ball was worked wide to winger Tom Hughes who ran brilliantly past 3 players to score Acklam's 4th try. Then, a few minutes later when Darlington were penalised on their own 22 Acklam opted for a scrum, from which slick hands put Dunn in for his second try and a comfortable 35 - 15 lead for the team. The scoreboard was now really starting to tick over and soon after Ashton showed good vision to send a cross kick to Hughes, enabling him to run in unopposed. However, Acklam were pegged back when against the run of play a pass was intercepted to give Darlington their 3rd try. Acklam continued to attack and after the ball was moved left then right the move was finished off by right winger Bradley Gator. The score had reached 47 - 20 but the home side then seemed to take their foot off the gas and allowed Darlington to score two more tries of their own. Acklam weren't finished though and kept moving the ball from side to side against a tired Darlington team, enabling Hughes to score two more tries and achieve the remarkable feat of scoring four tries in one half. By now many of the spectators had lost count of the score and the match finished in a 57 - 32 win for Acklam
