Acklam Junior Results Sunday 22 January

Acklam Under 17's win tight league encounter against Rovers

ACKLAM JUNIOR RESULTS SUNDAY 22nd JANUARY

Acklam Under 17’s 7 points v Hartlepool Rovers Under 17’s 5 points

Acklam played well to win this close fought league game. Acklam played into the strong wind in the first half and managed to play rugby to suit the conditions. To-day Acklam were much quicker to the break down than the opposition and they were able to recycle the ball without loosing possession. In defence Joe Parkin and Len Hogg tackle count was very good. Ricky Scott made himself a handful for the Rovers defence as time after time he crossed the gain line. Matty McClure had a good game winning excellent lineout ball.
Acklam turned around at half time leading 7-0, but Rovers started in a similar vain to how Acklam had finished the first half. Acklam found it hard to get good ball to relieve pressure so eventually Rovers scored. As the half progressed Acklam looked more comfortable, but Rovers tested them the whole game.

Acklam Under 16’s 19 points v Wensleydale Under 16’s 29 points

On a windy day Wensleydale scored an early try and then scored a second soon afterwards. From a well worked line out Kieran Scanlon scored Acklam’s first try but Dale hit back immediately with a third try. Just before half time Acklam won a scrum and Kieran scored his second try which was converted by Danny Phillips ht 17-12.
In the second half from a penalty Jake Parkins burst through and scored a try with Phillips converted but late on Dale scored 2 tries. Acklam lost 29-19 but Acklam can be proud of another good performance.

Acklam Under 14’s 0 points v Billingham Under 14’s 45 points

Playing against a strong wind Acklam forwards took on a strong Billingham pack and in an even first ten minutes they matched the opposition forwards both in the tight and the loose. On the ten minute mark a loose pass from the Acklam backs was intercepted by the Billingham centre and the resultant pressure resulted in Billinghams first try.

With the wind behind them the experienced slick moving Billingham backs took advantage of inexperience in the Acklam backs to run in a further 3 tries in the first half.

Instead of taking advantage of the wind in the second half Acklam lost concentration for the first period and Billingham ran in three further tries.
Acklam regained their concentration and the final quarter saw them put their opponents under pressure and go close to scoring on two occasions.

In an encouraging display by the Acklam pack skipper Lewis Steel and hooker Ryan Short were always prominent. Coaches have recently concentrated on the forwards who are showing dividends but more concentration on the backs should develop a more rounded team display.

Acklam Under 12’s 40 points v Guisborough Under 12’s 28 points

This was a very good game played in difficult conditions with both teams playing some good rugby with strong tackling from both sides.
The game was played over four quarters with the lead switching too and fro until the 3rd quarter when Acklam scored 3 unanswered tries playing against the wind and slope, this passage of play really sealed the game for Acklam.
Scrum Half Alex Faint capped an excellent display with a well taken try, strong performances from Lewis Edwards, Ben Ruddoch and debutant Mo Ghrgh made good overall team effort.
The hard work by the boys in training is beginning to pay off and we look forward to next Sunday’s game.

Acklam U11’s v Guisborough U11’s

Acklam Under 11’s beat Guisborough which was the their best performance so far…….well done lads !
