Acklam Under 14's show their potential for next season.

Acklam Under 14's 29 points v Pocklington Under 14's 12 points

Acklam U14's had the pleasure of hosting Pocklington who are on tour for this weekend on Teesside, they play Stockton tomorrow. Pocklington have a history of producing good junior teams so it was always going to be a severe test for the host team. The team had played together since minis and they beat Westhartlepool by 70 points last weekend.

The weather condition was miserable with a heavy drizzle which meant handling of the ball was critical. Pocklington tried to use their experienced backs but too many handling errors was their downfall. Acklam were more direct and with close support play they put the visitors under tremendous pressure.

Once again Acklam shuffled the team around and this time it worked. James Pearce was back in his best position at No. 8 and he was voted 'Man of the Match' by the visitor's coaching staff. The other big influence on the performance was having Nathan Harrison in his best position at open side flanker. This all resulted from Lewis Mace playing at inside centre for the first time and he excelled in this position. Lewis give Jack Fox at 10 the confidence to play and also influenced Jacob Robinson at outside centre to have his most effective game both in attack and defence. Nathan Faint used his experience to push the team forward. Good discipline was the key word.

Acklam forwards dominated the first half with the back row of Nathan Harrison, James Pearce and Leon Tosh swarming around the visitors making them make the mistakes. Connor Mitchell, Declan Monaco, Theo Labonete, Joel Nichols and Jon Carr were doing the essential boiler house work. Jake Kuka looked a threat as did Ben Smith on the wings although they had limited ball. Dylan Swash is a tough little nut at fullback.
Acklam scored three tries in the first half and well deserved their 17=0 H.T. lead.

The second half was even as both teams scored two tries each. Sam Holmes, Patrick Stockwell, Kieron Ross, Joe Marron, Nathaniel Marsay, Michael Hammond and Nathan Marron contributed to this fine performance. Try scorers were Nathan Harrison x2, James Pearce, Lewis Mace and Jacob Robinson.
Last night we had the team's Presentation Night and the support from parents and close family was excellent. The team is on the right track, let us not loose our direction, it showed today with the right focus they are capable as a team of doing very well.

Players Player of the Season was Nathan Harrison.
Most Improved Player by the coaches was Lewis Mace.
Recognition of Lewis Mace, James Pearce, Jacob Robinson and Nathan Harrison training in the England Rugby Development Player Programme.
