Acklam Under 14's close their season with a cameo performance.

Southwell U14's 5 points v Acklam U14's 52 points

Acklam were invited down to Whitby to play Southwell who are on tour of North Yorkshire this weekend, they played Scarborough yesterday and had a comfortable win and tomorrow they play Wetherby on their way home to Nottinghamshire.

First of all let us all wish Neal’s wife who is in hospital a speedy recovery, this meant he missed his first game.

Last week’s performance against Pocklington was our best so far, so to out perform that performance today was something special. This was no fluke, it was down to the key elements of the game being done correctly. Every player of to-day's 23 man squad excelled. In fact i will open a Grande Reserve de Gassac with our meal tonight and celebrate the fact the team has turned a major corner in their development.

Acklam started the game the way they finished, they never let up, as they showed good physicality with good skills and they played the game with good pace. Jacob Robinson at outside centre opened the scoring within the first few minutes, this was the start of a very good hat trick. Lewis Mace at inside centre scored the second try, proving that he has found a position that he can be most effective. It is pleasing to report that Nathaniel Marsay was duly rewarded with the fourth try of the game, when he supported Lewis on a 40 meter break who was tackled 5 meters short but he offloaded to Nathaniel to score. Southwell scored a try from a Acklam 22 meters kick.
H.T. Southwell 5 - Acklam 22.

The second half Acklam made the changes and for a period they lost their focus, but recovered to score four more tries, Nathan Harrison at 7, James Pearce at 8 and Leon Tosh at 5.
F.T. 5 - 52.

Several players could of earned man of the Match but Connor Mitchell took the honour to-day with some very forceful runs by the 2nd row player. The overall general play, defensive line, tackling, support play and attacking lines meant the team has raised the bar for themselves. Discipline, Teamwork, Gamesmanship, Respect and Enjoyment were clearly visible in their performance.

Matty Mason did very well in his debut game, unfortunately Ben Smith pulled up injured before the game. Joe Marron bloody nose didn’t stop him returning to the field of play. Jack Fox is looking more like a proper 10 by each game, he also kicked 6 out of 8 conversions. Captain James Pearce, Nathan Harrison and Leon Tosh in the back row were like a rash on the opposition. Acklam’s scrum was solid, time and time again forcing their opponents backwards.

As everyone should know this was out last game of the present season, so fitness training will start end of May, Neal will text everyone, I will start rugby training the beginning of July after my holiday’s. You all should look forward to next season with confidence as you have proved what you are capable of.
