Acklam V Mowden Park Match report Sunday 15th April 2018 By Callum Barker
Finally, a mild and dry Sunday morning for a game of rugby, however the pitch was still suffering from weeks of rain and was still soft and muddy underfoot.
Acklam had a good turn out with a full team and 2 substitutes and Mowden had a full team with ample substitutes.
Acklam had the first kick off but 10 minutes into the game Mowden scored the first try, running through the Acklam lines and with the conversion it was 0-7.
Mowden dominating the game but Acklam showing some resilience, Ben making some excellent defensive tackles.
11.15 - Acklam #5 Connor came off with a head injury, which was shame as he was demonstrating some amazing tackling skills, #19 Harry came on to replace him.
Kai putting in a fantastic effort and making some excellent tackles against Mowden.
11.20 despite Acklam putting up a good show of defence, Mowden were too strong and burst through the lines again to score another try and conversion making the score 0-14.
Within minutes, Mowden were on the attack again with impressive passing down the wing and with no Acklam players there to defend, Mowden scored again with another conversion adding to the score 0-21.
Esa made some good attempts to run through Modwen’s defences but to no avail. Jack J kept the Acklam line strong.
Acklam showed some good presence in the scrum with #8 Kai and #9 Joe working together to get possession and present to the rest of the team.
11.30 Mowden broke through Acklam’s defences and despite a good effort by full back Ben, who unfortunately could not get a grip on the Mowden player took the score to 0-28.
Summary of the 1st half for Acklam was that the defence was good even though Mowden dominated the score sheet, but Acklam needed more opportunity to attack.
Second half underway and Mowden score again at 11.36 adding a conversion 0-35.
11.44 After overturning Acklam’s scrum, Mowden barged through their defences making it 0-42 after the conversion.
Jack ? made a good run but was brought down by Modwen’s defence. #9 Joe came off and #20 Ryan replaced him.

11.50 Mowden made an impressive run along the wing and into the try zone, no conversion made it 0-47.
Kai showing good commitment in some strong tackling.
#14 Mohammed unfortunately came off due to injury – he had been making some great tackles throughout the game for Acklam and #9 Joe came back on.
#4 Oliver came off and #5 Connor replaced him.
11.58 Acklam ball offloaded to Esa who made an impressive run across the width of the pitch and finally into the try zone onto the score sheet but unfortunately no conversion 5-47.
12.00 final play of the match was from Mowden with a successful dive at the try line and no conversion leaving the final score Acklam 5 – Mowden Park 53.
An unfortunate result for Acklam today, but on a positive note, 98% of the scrums were won by Acklam, with the forwards doing an amazing job in the scrum.
Man of the match for Acklam was Kai, for his dedication to tackles and amazing effort throughout the whole game - Well done.
