Acklam come back well to earn a hard fought win

Acklam came back well from a 12 point deficit to earn a hard fought win against a determined Sedgefield team.
Unfortunately Acklam winger Paul Roberts was knocked out in the first minute and had to be helped from the field, with Ricky Scott coming on for his first game of the season. Sedgefield had the upper hand in the forwards early on. After missing a penalty kick at goal, the home side continued to press and opened the scoring in the 9th minute with a try from a line out driving maul. Acklam struck back almost immediately - Sedgefield were caught offside whilst defending in their own 22 and Acklam scrum half took a quick penalty to go over for a good try. He then kicked the conversion to give Acklam a 5 - 7 lead. This was short lived however as straight from the kick off Sedgefield intercepted to score under the posts and restore their lead. Things got worse for Acklam shortly after that as another driving maul and an excellent conversion made the score 19 - 7 to Sedgefield midway through the first half. The sides then exchanged penalties before Acklam ran one to put Marcus Sudron over in the corner and reduce the arrears to 22 - 17 at half time.
Acklam brought on prop Jamie Bowtell-Potter for the second half and started to put the home scrum under pressure. Shortly after the restart repeated and unrelenting attacks by Acklam were eventually rewarded with a try from winger Brad Gator to level the scores. Then ten minutes later when Sedgefield were penalised at the breakdown Acklam opted for a scrum and a good move put Gator in again to put them 22 - 27 in front. Sedgefield were not giving up and after a period of pressure they kicked another penalty to reduce Acklam's lead to just two points with 12 minutes left. However, Acklam were equally determined to stay in front and after again putting the Sedgefield scrum under pressure they stole the ball and Sudron scored his second try. This made it 25 - 32 to Acklam and after withstanding some late attacks by the home side they were happy to come away with another 5 points for the bonus point win, leaving Sedgefield with the consolation of a losing bonus point.
