Hustlers - Match centre

Richmondshire II
Acklam Hustlers
Sat 17 Mar 14:15 - League Full time

A good show in the snow...

.

The hustlers braved the weather to travel to Richmond for our latest league fixture .

The ref reluctantly passed the boggy pitch as barely playable & said if the snow got any worse the game would be abandoned , it did get worse but the game went ahead.

A decent Hustlers team welcomed 2 young lads from Canada to make up our starting XV and we headed on to the pitch .

Richmond started the brighter with the Acklam defence slow to respond at the breakdown but the game was nip & tuck before Richmond turned us over and a missed clearance catch by the hustlers captain let Richmond in with a big kick & chase to score the 1st try .

We went down to 14 men due to an injury to Brad & Tom as we waited for replacements to arrive Acklam improved , driving the scrum & stealing a few line outs but Richmond added a 2nd try before half time and we finished the 1st 40 minutes at 10-0 down.

Strong words by The lads at the interval had the desired affect and we started the 2nd half on the front foot .
Stu Richardson gamely crashing it in & this time we were able to protect our own ball and build our attacks .

Ash Gibson had stepped in at 10 for this game & found his rhythm in the second half . His back line upped their Attacking play and Richmond had no answer . A yellow card for Bobby meant we had to go uncontested scrums. Clever play by Paul saw him drop out of the front row & line up in the attack , allowing him to crash a great try over the line .

The hustlers scored 5 tries in all as they ran rampant through a tiring Richmondshire team .

Full time came as a very welcome relief from the snow , gales & sub zero temperatures.

Scorers for Ack were Alex faint , Jordan , Paul , Ash & George .

Man of the match was a difficult choice as the majority of the team gave everything they had .

Paddy came close but it goes to Jordan Rae for stepping in at prop , his defensive & attacking play - topped off with his try.

Special mention to Young Reece & Morgan
Over here from Canada who both had a good game for us & they’re more than welcome to join us next week .

I’ll leave with these facts :

Hustlers powerhouse 2nd row combined age was 87 yrs ??
& both flankers combined age ( 43 ) was the same as the captain’s ?....
