Ladies 1 V Bingley Bees 1

Ladies 1 V Bingley Bees 1

Acomb ladies welcomed Bingley to Energise for their penultimate home game hoping for a win to keep up their promotion charge. The game started in a strange fashion with the Bingley goal keeper having to start the match with no pads on due to a car breaking down on the journey. The tangerines had the worst start possible after 3 minutes a wayward pass across their own D allowed the Bingley striker to wander into the D and finish the ball past Steph Barker in the Acomb goal. Their response was almost instantaneous and 4 minutes later Acomb were level after Hannah Yoward drove forward with the ball and excellently played a 1/2 with Sian Klukowski before finishing superbly into the bottom corner. The tangerines continued their pressure and in the 13th minute they believed they had taken the lead when Yoward again struck and the ball hit the inside board before Bingley goalkeeper pulled the ball back into play and the umpire controversially disallowed the goal saying the whole of the ball hadn't crossed the line. However 6 minutes later Acomb did take the lead through a short corner, Kerry Woods initial shot hit the post and came back for Klukowski to fire the ball into the back of the goal. The rest of the first half saw numerous chances for Acomb but the Bingley goalkeeper was on top form with her saves. The last play of the half saw Klukowski go on one of her trademark dribbles into the D and set Kiera Woods up to make it 3-1 at half time.
The 2nd half started with Acomb again dominating in all areas of the pitch and in the 42nd minute the game was seemingly put to bed when Klukowski again dribbled and fired the ball across the D for Wendy Watson to finish expertly with a first time shot to leave the score at 4-1. The game died down after the 4th goal and there weren’t any clear chances for either side until the 60th minute when Bingley had a short corner and Acomb keeper Steph Barker saved the initial shot only for the rebound to fall to a Bingley striker and she slotted the ball into the corner despite the best efforts of Acomb's defence. The last 10 minutes saw Acomb comfortably control the game to see out an impressive win. Results elsewhere meant that the tangerines only need 1 point from their remaining 2 games to be promoted and 2 points to be crowned champions.
