Callington edge our boys to win 2-0
A fruitless trip to Cornwall but plenty of promise on the pitch.
To coin a well used phrase, it was a game of two halves!
After winning the toss, we played the first half downhill and with the sun behind us, hoping for the advantage. The ball moved quickly across the Callington pitch from the recent rain which seemed to foil our attacking play. Callington made the better start and applied a good amount of pressure which kept our defence busy. Sam Follett made some assured saves and took charge of the penalty area. Eventually Callington scored after a corner produced a goal area scramble five minutes before the halftime whistle.
The second half commenced and despite now having to run the whole half uphill, Activate started to look the stronger side. The boys moved the ball more confidently which created opportunities for Cody Sellwood to penetrate the Callington box; Louie Escrig and Antony Collins also started to gel in midfield which created chances. Sadly after a good spell, Callington had another corner kick which Activate once again failed to deal with. A well placed glancing header made it 2-0 to the Cornish side. Activate continued to press and were unlucky to have Cody Sellwood called offside when he was clean on goal.
Some good performances from Activate, notably Sam Follett in goal, Wade German playing for the first time on the wing showing his pace. This game also saw Micheal Martin’s best performance who came as close as anyone to scoring. Our man of the match this week was Nathan Ball who was solid at left back providing good cover and movement down the wing. Credit must also go to the Callington keeper who pulled off saves against almost the entire Activate squad.
Sadly the lads couldn't repeat the winning performance from the previous week, we were unlucky at times but the final result was a fair one. Once again the boys worked hard and have done themselves proud.
Bring on Keyham Kolts Youth at home next week!
