Home comforts for area's newest club

July 22, 2009 by James Oliver, Crewe Chronicle

Acton Nomads RFC have won the right to call the Barony in Nantwich "home".

The new outfit had faced competition from another club to use the sports facility in the heart of the town during their inaugural season.

But after weeks of deliberation by Cheshire East Council, the other application was withdrawn at the final hour.

Chairman Jed Thurlow said "There was some doubt initially, but the way has now been cleared for us to make the Barony, and the nearby Red Lion pub our home.

"This will help establish us as a true town based club, using local facilities for local people.

"We are already using the Barony for training, along side rugby league team Crewe & Nantwich Steamers, so we are very happy.

"We would like to thank Alan Killalee at Malbank High School for offering us their facilities in the event that we had failed to secure the Barony."

Acton Nomads first game at the Barony will be a friendly against Supermarine from Swindon on August 15.
