Lucky Lucas won the toss, but couldn't decide whether to bat or bowl. So after another toss we decided to bowl. Siyam opened up, providing a typical warm Adel welcome to the recently reformed Alwoodley u11 side, by bowling 2 beamers in his first over. Sam opened the other end and returned solid figures of 2 (wickets) for 0 (runs). Siyam ending with 0 for 3. Surya partnered up with Ben bowling some nicely flighted leg spin bagging 2 for 1, with Ben's 2 straight overs returned 0 for 1. Shayan's spin returned 2 for 0. Louis's figures were 0 for 2, and Charlie 1 for 7. Not a bad start to the season on a cold and wet night, although the batters were very weak. 7 wides and 2 no balls indicates room for improvement. The few balls which needed fielding were done so efficiently, cold hands are harder to stop the ball with. Much tougher tests for our bowlers and fielders will come in following weeks.
At the break the team worked out that they each needed to score exactly 0 to cruise to a comfortable victory, they decided to protect their wickets and just hit the bad ball. Again as Alwoodley are a newly reformed team there were plenty of balls to hit. Shayan top scored on 18, one drive for 4 through mid off being the pick of his shots. Louis finished on 15 with some nice off drives. Surya and Lucas each scored a straight batted 10, Ben scored 7 with a nice 4, Charlie scored 13 but was out bowled so ended up on 5. Siyam was the only batter not to score 0 finishing on -6 having been out twice.
It was good to actually get a game in and the boys seemed to enjoy the match, despite the cold, wet and soggy conditions. Hopefully spring will arrive soon.
