Adwalton Cricket Club

Adwalton CC are one of the first clubs in the region to launch their own fantasy cricket.

The game, available through their website, www.adwaltoncc.co.uk, started up earlier this year and there is already considerable interest from their members.

Said second XI skipper Mark Palfreeman: “Its exciting that we can take part in a fantasy game which features ourselves. It adds interest for players and spectators during a Saturday afternoon match.”

The club hopes the idea will extend beyond Adwalton supporters and will be embraced by other CYCL clubs. Joked club secretary Chris Priestley: “Players from other teams know us, so perhaps we’ll have bowlers turning up and not wanting to get wickets because they have our batsmen in their fantasy team!”

The site is hosted by Fantastar, an internet website specialising in fantasy leagues for a variety of sports, including cricket, football and rugby. Their business model is managing games for larger companies such as McDonald’s and O2, but the software they provide makes it relatively easy to create a customised version.

The idea provides an innovative means for local clubs to market themselves – and if it’s a success at Adwalton, other CYCL clubs may be persuaded to take up the idea, or even participate in a larger version encompassing the whole league.
