This weekend will see AFAN LIDO support the Fortnight of Action in our fixture against AFC PORTH, both teams will be wearing anti-racism T-shirts prior to kick off to show their support for Show Racism the Red Card and its anti-racism work.

Show Racism the Red Card is the UK’s leading anti-racism educational charity. The organisation utilises the high-profile status of football and football players to help tackle racism in society. The majority of the campaign’s output is the delivery of education to young people and adults in their schools, their workplaces and at events held in football stadiums.

The Fortnight of Action forms part of the FARE Football People action weeks and aims to challenge discrimination and celebrate the contribution we all make to football, wherever we live, whatever our connection to the game and whatever our background.

Support from Welsh Football Clubs has been integral in helping Show Racism the Red Card progress their work in Wales. During the 2013/14 season the campaign worked with over 20,000 young people and held 28 educational events at stadiums across the country supported by professional players.

Supported by the Football Association, the Fortnight of Action has been running since 2007 in Wales. More clubs and leagues have joined the action weeks each season. This year will see over 80 clubs across 9 leagues involved.

SRtRC Campaign worker Jason Webber spoke about the Fortnight of Action saying:

“This year’s FOA will see a record number of clubs and leagues unite across Wales in match actions. Racism continues to spoil the beautiful game and we must all do our bit to step up our efforts in challenging these issues to once and for all eradicate it from football and society.”
Our club ambassador this season is ALEX GAMMOND who shared his thoughts on racism in football saying: Afan Lido Football Club gives 100% support to the campaign.

STEVE LLEWELLYN also highlighted the clubs stance against racism: We give everyone an opportunity at this club regardless of colour or creed.

Jason works with clubs across Wales utilizing sport as an engagement tool for young people.
