Great win for Charvil
A well deserved victory against a skilful Laurel Park team
A cool damp morning welcomed the U11s back to St George's field and on paper a tough test against a team beaten only once in the league and with a reputation of scoring freely allied to a strong defence. Previous weeks have shown a consistently slow start to games and early goals proving crucial. So this week, Simeon applied his own unique warm-up techniques and the girls took to the park with vigour and enthusiasm, but probably a little shell shocked and tired as true to form an early goal was leaked following a solid attack by the Allstarz. Throughout the next 10 mins Charvil soaked up a lot pressure and struggled to enter the opposition's half. With the introduction of Anna, Bella & Georgina, shape started to form and whilst play remained in Charvil's half, Laurel Park did not look quite as dangerous. Delyth, in goal was required to make a few saves, but her goal was never really under threat.
Into the second half and only one goal down, the girls were buoyed and felt confident. A switch of goal keepers and the combination of Carla playing off Charlotte up front started to generate genuine goal opportunities. The ball was secured in defence by Hannah (with another solid performance) passed through midfield by Amiee to Carla who had perked up and started to get the measure of the Allstarz defence. The goal mouth scramble was finished off by Delyth and scores were level. Belief entered Charvil and with careful rotation of players, a win started to look possible. A pattern started to show, Hannah, Anna or Rachel would snuff out an attack and Amiee, Lucy and Bella would control the midfield to unleash Carla who worked well with Charlotte who started to break through the Allstarz's defence with a combination of strength and skills and as a result, deservedly came away with Girl of the Match. On the odd occasion when the Allstarz broke Charvil's defence Georgina delighted the crowd with a string of saves including one great stop from a 15yd drive.
The other Girl of the Match, Delyth started to come into her own in the second half, chasing down the opposition and forcing errors. This led to another charge towards the Allstarz goal and a well deserved goal for Carla. The whispers on the touchline were now becoming louder, could Charvil hang on or would the Allstarz mount enough pressure, level the game and possibly go away winners...... A well worked third goal and second for Carla, again combining well with Charlotte provided belief for the touchline and more importantly for the players. Continued pressure from well drilled and skilful opponents provided all spectators with a great final 5 minutes and when the referee blew for full time, a great victory was secured by Charvil.
