The waiting is over. Rayner’s Rams Reign gets underway and there can be no better way than The Emirates FA Cup Extra-Preliminary Round.

"We travel in good shape" Kevin Rayner

The draw paired the Rams with Colliers Wood United for the second time in only our fourth campaign in the competition. It is a repeat of the game played in 2013 when The Wood ran out comfortable winners. At that time, however, the Rams plied their trade at Step 6 so the scene is set differently this time around.

The previous game was notable because of a bizarre incident that saw striker Louis Blake sent off on his debut for dropping his shorts. No one at the ground could quite believe it and it made the sports news around the world! I doubt we will see any repeat this time around.

With both teams opening their campaigns there is very little form to speak of. In pre-season the Rams have had 5 wins, a draw and 2 defeats. Wood on the other hand have won 7 and drawn 1 of their games. What you can read into that is anyone’s guess.

Eagerly awaited will be the selection of Kevin Rayner’s first team. Reflecting on the game he said how much he was looking forward to starting the season.

“We are expecting a tough game, like all clubs we could have done with another week or so but things have come together nicely and we travel in good shape.” He went on “Colliers Wood are a very good side and have improved dramatically over the last couple of seasons and we certainly can’t take them lightly. That said everyone is looking forward to it and hopefully the Club and supporters will enjoy watching a lot of the new squad assembled.”

Matchday weather is forecast to be fine and sunny, more akin to an FA Cup Final! Temperatures should climb to mid-20s with just a light westerly breeze. Colliers Wood United Wibbandune ground is located on the A3 just south of the Robin Hood Roundabout. There is limited parking at the ground but there is a footbridge over the A3 if you park on the northbound carriageway side. The nearest station is Raynes Park. However you get there, we are certain you will be assured a warm welcome so come along and support the Rams!
