The best way to keep up to date with AFC Croydon Athletic

Preview - Glebe

9 months ago By Website Administrator

The London Senior Cup comes to Mayfield Stadium on Tuesday as AFC Croydon Athletic takes on Glebe in the first round tie.

The Rams take on Glebe for the first time as they clash in the competition sponsored by Coventry Scaffolding. A six game unbeaten league run has lifted Kevin Rayner's team to the top of the league but cup football is rarely a respecter of league positions so it is certainly going to be a tight encounter. Indeed, Glebe seem to have saved their best performances for cup ties and our scheduled league meeting had to be postponed due to their run in the FA Cup which took them through to the 2nd Qualifying Round only going out on penalties.

Glebe's most recent league games includes two draws at Sevenoaks Town and Crowborough Athletic as well as holding Phoenix Sports to two draws in the FA Cup, however they haven't won since a victory over Banstead Athletic a month ago.

The Rams only defeat in September was the extra-time reverse against Broadbridge Heath. They go into the game in excellent form and Rayner will be keen to ensure the run continues

If the scores are level after 90 minutes the match is decided by penalty kicks. The winners of this game will travel to play either Beckenham Town or Croydon in the 2nd Round.

Rayner's Reward The team's performances during September have been rewarded as Kevin Rayner has won the Manager of the Month.
Fixture Change Our postponed league game against Glebe has been rearranged and will now take place on Saturday 21st October.
