AFC Emley’s FA Cup dream was crushed on Saturday as they fell to a 4-0 defeat against higher opposition, Northwich Victoria.

Darren Hepworth’s side dominated the opening exchanges of this second FA Cup preliminary round but was soon punished by former Huddersfield Town loanee Godwin Abadaki.

The ruthless forward netted two goals inside the first half and, after Josh Ingham saw red for Emley early in the second period for an apparent elbow, the forward soon sealed his hat-trick, giving his side a comfortable 3-0 lead.

Against ten men, the home side went in search of a fourth and got it six minutes from the end thanks to a header from Michael Clarke.

It was a disappointing day for Emley who had hopes of causing a major upset against a side who play their domestic football in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League.

Better news surrounded the Development Squad as they ran out 5-2 winners against Thackley last week.

The youngsters have started well in their new campaign and go in search of a third win on the bounce when they welcome Eccleshill Leeds to the Welfare Ground this Thursday evening.
