Emley progress in County cup
AFC Emley made It two wins in two after seeing off Hall Green United 3-1 in the second round of the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Cup, writes club reporter Hish Riordan.
It was an entertaining and back and forth game under the floodlights with chances from the off. Ben Dyson went close to opening the scoring for Hall Green after 5 minutes, but was unable to get on the end of a good cross. They should have been ahead just a minute later, however a goal line block and clearance from Tabby Magida denied them the lead.
Mick Amos came close for the away side again minutes later, however it was Emley who struck first, when Lewis Dickinson volleyed home on the end of a free kick after 15 minutes. Injury plagued Emley were forced into an early substitution in the 19th minute when Matty Waller went off injured and was replaced by Luke Hill.
It got worse for Emley 16 minutes later when Hill himself went down injured and was stretchered off. Hall Green threatened to score just before half time, however the home side went into the break with the lead.
It was a quiet start to the second half, but it was kick started into life in the 65th minute when Curtis Roberts scored Emley’s second, poking the ball into the back of the net during a goal mouth scramble. He could have had a second minutes later when he passed two defenders and found himself 1 on 1 with Hall Green Keeper Jordan Robinson, however his shot was saved.
United were given a life line 10 minutes later when Amos headed home for the away side. However Emley substitute Jonny Bullivant scored three minutes later, running down the left and firing into the bottom right of the net with a superb shot, giving Emley some breathing room.
Both teams had chances late on, however Emley saw the game out for their second win in a week, and passage through to round three of the cup.
