AFC Hayes lose narrowly to league leaders Westfield
A penalty with 5 mins remaining saw the Brook lose 3-2 to Westfield
In arguably their best performance of the season the Brook were unlucky not to have earned at least a point against Westfield who currently sit atop the Premier Division.
Unsurprisingly it was Westfield who started the match the better & in the first 10 mins they created several scoring opportunities but either poor shooting or the Brook's keeper Cameron Kennedy the visitors were unable to open the scoring.
Gradually the Brook got into the game & their passing game & their pressure on the visitors saw them look the more likely to score. However when in the 36th minute DAN CARTER opened the scoring it proved to be wonderful goal. The Westfield keeper Sheikh Ceesey made a poor clearance which went to Carter about 40 yards out on the left wing, with excellent composure he took a touch & shot over the stranded keeper.1-0
However 3 minutes later the Brook lost one of their centre halves Haluna Masembe when making a tremendous covering tackle he damaged his hamstring & was replaced by Harrison Okwu.Although a set back for the Brook as Masembe was playing well at the back they continued to look the team more likely to score & it was clear from the visitors attitude & reaction they were relieved to hear the half-time whistle.HT 1-0
The Brook started the 2nd half well & were unlucky when in the 49th minute Dean McDonnell thought he had increased the Brook's lead but it was disallowed for offside.
Clearly Westfield had been given a rocket at half time as they gradually took control of the game & equalized in the 57th minute through Blackmore & 2 minutes later took the lead through Carder-Andrews.1-2
These setbacks saw the Brook replace Lukas Paczkowski with Ryan Dearden(61 mins) & James Charles with Chris Martin-Thomas(66 mins) and the changes brought almost immediate effect for the Brook as in the 69th minute a fine corner from Dan Carter found Dean McDonnell whose header beat Ceesey.2-2
The Brook's confidence was clear to see as they pressed for the winner with debutant Isaac Olaleye,Dean McDonnell & Dan Carter all having opportunities but unable to find the target. Not taking these chances finally cost the Brook as Westfield continued to press looking for a third goal which came in the 85th minute as the Brook conceded a penalty which was scored by Hicham Abdellah.2-3.
Although the Brook tried hard to get the equalizer a lot of time wasting & cynical play by Westfield denied them the opportunities & the match ended in a 3-2 win for the leaders.
A good performance from the Brook which bodes well for our future games but we need to start putting out a settled team the number of changes forced or not is clearly hurting the team.
