AFC Hayes play out 1-1 draw with 3rd placed Walton & Hersham
A hard fought match between AFC Hayes & Walton & Hersham finished in a 1-1 draw on Tuesday evening.
The 1st half was only 3 minutes old when Walton gave the ball away in midfield allowing Harry Carter to have a run on goal but his shot from just outside the box went over the bar.
With the Swans playing some good passing football full back Hornby made a break down the left but when his low cross was driven across the area both Bojaj & Shaban failed to make contact with the ball.A minute later Benincasa broke down the right & found Carter whose shot was well held by the Swans Brendan Norris.
On 14 minutes the Swans took the lead when right back Smith-Joseph easily beat the Brook left back Charlie Howes & his cross found Abdeen Abdul at the near post and he headed past Kennedy.1-0
With 10 minutes of the 1st half remaining Abdul headed straight at the Brook keeper Kennedy & a minute later it was the Brook's turn as Carter fired in a shot fro the right corner of the area which Norris originally fumbled but recovered the ball just as Jarraz was about to prod the ball into the goal.Norris was then called onto save the ball on his goal line from a shot by Benincasa.
There was still time for both sides to get in a shot before the half ended.Firstly Smith - Joseph fired in a shot that Kennedy saved at his near post & at the other end Norris saved well when Mourad got a shot in from the edge of the area.HT 1-0
The 2nd half started with the Swans awarded a free kick outside the box. Shaban was fouled by Austin Schofield who was harshly booked by the referee. From the kick the ball was turned behind for a corner which was comfortably cleared,
The Brook continued to see a lot of the ball & from a free kick in the 55th minute the kick flew across the face of the Swans goal but no-one was able to get a touch on the ball & it curled over the goal-line for a goal kick.
The game was now very open with both sides creating scoring opportunities but it was the Brook who scored on 69 minutes when they were awarded a free kick just out side the left of the Walton goal. The kick was taken by Jordan Berry who saw his shot just tipped onto the crossbar by the Swans Norris & as the ball dropped behind him it clipped his heel to fall perfectly for Harry Carter who had followed up to tap the ball into the net.1-1
5 minutes later Walton had an opportunity to regain the lead as Abdul was played through by Simpson but the Brook keeper Kennedy was quickly off his line to make a fine block. As the game moved towards full time bot sides had half chances to score the winner but good defending by both sets of defences kept the score at 1-1
Overall I think a point apiece was a fair result on the night as both sides were committed to attack but both defences played well.
