"Brook" share points with Sutton Common Rovers
The Brook earned a hard won point at home to a Sutton Common Rovers side who had gone 10 games unbeaten before todays game.
A tough game against a very aggressive & physical side saw the Brook pick up a well earned point on Saturday, drawing 1-1 at home to a Sutton Common Rovers side lying in 6th place ion the league.
It was the visitors who started the match on the front foot as they looked to stretch the Brook defence by playing 2 wide players & they were soon putting the Brook under pressure. However despite having much of the ball a failure to capitalize on their possession and some poor decision making meant SCR didn't score or create many clear cut opportunities.
With the Brook defence under early pressure it was a surprise when on 30 mins the Brook's Harry Carter found some space but his shot was comfortably saved by Eacott in the SCR goal.SCR continued to dominate but to many times their final ball was poor or their shots were rushed & were well dealt with by Cameron Kennedy in the home goal.
As the half moved on the Brook midfield began to have more possession & gradually began looking to create scoring opportunities but the visitors defence was solid & easily dealt with the Brook long balls. But on 41 minutes Harry Carter worked another oppoetunity but his well struck shot was parried by Eacott. From this breakdown SCR broke forward catching the Brook defence napping & a fine through ball reached SCR's Cooper-Smith whose run had beaten the home defence. He rounded Kennedy & tapped the ball home with only 2 minutes of the half remaining.0-1
The 2nd half started very similar to the 1st as SCR looked to build on their lead but the Brook had come out with much more determination & were seeing more of the ball, especially with Harry Carter & Dean McDonnell looking to feed Mourad Jarraz up front who although sometimes isolated was working hard & clearly troubling the SCR defence with his pace & tenacity.
On 67 minutes his persistence nearly paid off as his shot was blocked for a corner.Stii the Brook pressed & on 73 minutes got their reward Jarraz drove into the SCR area & when his path was blocked the ball fell for Harry Bishop, his shot was also blocked but the ball flew into the air,Eacott in the SCR goal looked favourite to reach the ball but for whatever reason fumbled the ball that then popped up to allow Dean McDonnell to head over Eacott & into the net for the Brook equalizer.1-1
The goal clearly shocked the visitors as they began to argue amongst themselves & the Brook looked to take advantage of their confusion. On
76 minutes Harry Bishop made a run into the box from the left wing but was stopped by a clear reckless & dangerous tackle but amazingly the referee waved play on & as the ball broke into the Brook half Bishop was left in a crumples heap inside the SCR area until the referee finally halted the game so he could receive treatment.
2 minutes later Harry Carter again made a run through the visitors defence but his shot was blocked.
With the game drawing to a close SCR pressed looking for the winning goal & were attacking down their left when Ryan Dearden seemed to make an excellent tackle only for the referee to award a free kick.As SCR were preparing to take the kick the Referee was making the Brook wall retreat the normal 10 yards when suddenly he apparently called over Dean McDonnell who was in the area ready to defend the free kick.Confusion reigned as the referee had no idea what he was doing but finally showed Dean McDonnell a 2nd Yellow Card meaning he was sent off. This whole farce went on for over 5 minutes leaving the Brook totally bemused as to the decision.
Finally the kick was taken & ended up with Kennedy easily collecting the ball & clearing upfield. With nearly 6 minutes of time adde4d on SCR sensed the opportunity to snatch the game but excellent defending by the Brook kept the scores level.FT 1-1
Hopefully the Brook can gain some confidence from this game against a very good SCR team & start climbing the table in the next few weeks.
