Match Report by Taz Phalora
Redhill's Tony Halsey scored a hat-trick as the Brook slipped to defeat.Halsey opened the scoring late in the 1st half before Dean McDonnell equalized for the Brook early in the 2nd half. Both sides needed the points but it was the visitors who came out on top as Halsey scored 2 more goals in the games last 7 minutes, the 3rd from the penalty spot.
On a mild afternoon at Farm Park, the hosts had the chance to open the scoring as early as the 2nd minute when Jordan Berry's corner was met at the near post by Reece Fosh but he was unable to direct his volley towards goal.
Moments later another chance fell for the Brook as Harry Carter skipped past 3 Redhill player's but from the edge of the box could only fire wide of the goal.
With the Brook unable to find the opening goal, they were lucky not to concede as Charlie Howes was adjudged to have handled the ball just outside the penalty area which resulted in a dangerous free kick for the visitor.Jacob Mendy-Mend,s left footed curler defeated Cameron Kennedy in the home goal but, luckily for the Brook, hit the post & was cleared.
The Lobsters continued to grow into the game looking for a breakthrough.Good work down the left side of the pitch from Gary Abisogun enabled him to advance into the penalty area where he cut the ball back allowing Mohammed Diakite but his shot was comfortably saved by Kennedy.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 32nd minute when Kofi Frimpong's long pass fell to Mendy-Mendy whose cross reached Tony Halsey who made no mistake from close range.
The Brook should have been level 7 minutes later as Jordan Berry's defence splitting pass left Mourad Jarraz one-on-one with the Loster keeper but he hit his shot past the keeper & the post.On 42 minutes Jarraz had another one-on-one opportunity when Harry Carter's pass allowed Jarrez to again beat the keeper but again the ball went past the post.H-T 0-1
Within the first 2 minutes of the start of the 2nd half, the Lobsters had two chances to extend their lead.Firstly Burford dribbled past 2 Hayes defenders but his shot was comfortably saved by Kennedy,a minute later Abisogun set up a strike at goal for Mendy-Mendy but again Kennedy made the save.
On 54 minutes the Brook equalized through Dean McDonnellMourad Jarraz beat two defenders but just as he was about to shoot he slipped & the squirmed away to fall nicely for Dean McDonnell to calmly round the Lobster's keeper Rhys Hughes & put the ball into the empty net.1-1
As the game wore on the heavy, muddy ground was causing both sides difficulty but to be fair both teams continued to try & play football. The best chance after the Brook's equalizing goal fell to the Lobster's.On 77 minutes Eno Idiong's long pass found Burford who crossed early for Halsey to hit first time but Kennedy made an excellent save.
With 10 minutes of the game remaining it was the Lobster's who got the crucial 2nd goal when Abisongu pass was met on the half volley by Halsey to fire past Kennedy.1-2
With the game going into stoppage time Redhill increased their lead when Abisongu was fouled in the box by Kharas & the referee immediately pointed to the spot.Halsey stepped up & fired past Kennedy for the Lobster's 3rd goal & his hat-trick.
On the balance of play Redhill probably deserved their victory as they were certainly the more energetic team but you always think what if as the Brook missed to one-on-ones within 5 minutes of Redhill opening the scoring.
After playing well over the past 3/4 weeks this was a disappointing performance so we all hope the team can improve when we visit CB Hounslow on January 6th.
