Brook unlucky to lose against high flying Abbey Rangers.
An unfortunate mistake cost the Brook against 3rd place Abbey on Saturday.
Despite playing well the Brook came away from Addlestone Moor without at least a point their performance deserved.
The game started slowly as both teams struggled for any rhythm but it all changed from the 12th minute. The Brook were on the attack when the ball went up in the air.as both the Brook's Sekani McCalmon & home defender went for the ball McCalmon turned straight into the boot of the defender & went down. There was no malice in the challenge,a complete accident even if the Abbey defenders boot was high and the referee quite correctly took no action other than to award the Brook a free kick.
It took some time for McCalmon to recover & he left the pitch to be replaced by Nat Mensah - he was later taken to hospital to check for any possible concussion or other injuries.
The free kick was taken at last but it was poor & the ball easily cleared by the home defence.
In the 20th minute the Brook conceded a very poor goal - Abbey were on the attack & a long ball found its way to Josh Bramwell in the Brook goal, under no pressure he scuffed his clearance which fell to Abbey's Alex Hendrie about 22 yards out,he controlled the ball and shot into the empty net.1-0
The Brook hit back straight away as Omar Hassan made an incisive run but his shot hit the crossbar. The ball rebounded to Josh Quadry but his cross was headed over the bar by Jack Roper.
At the other end pressure from Abbey led to the Brook clearing 2 shots off the goal line.
The Brook continued to look for the equalizer & in time added on to the 1st half Quadry went down the right wing, played the ball into Hassan but he shot over the bar.The Brook were awarded a free kick in the 3rd minute of 1st half added time but another poor effort saw the opportunity wasted.H-T 1-0
Straight from the restart the Brook were on the attack & after 2 minutes Matt Kaczmarek had a shooting opportunity but his shot was saved by home keeper Stone.
The game continued with both sides unable to create clear opportunities & it was developing into a midfield struggle.
On 67 minutes the Brook were awarded a free kick outside the box on the right but Harry Bishop's kick eas easily blocked. As hard as the Brook strived for the equalizer the more solid Abbey's defence remained & the game ended at 1-0 to the home team.
A disappointing end for the Brook as most neutrals thought we deserved a point but until we have a proven goalscorer we will struggle to gain points.
