Brook arrest Villains
In a competitive game between the 2 bottom clubs it was "The Brook" who finished on top.
Goals from Montes & Harmes ensured "The Brook" ended the match with all 3 points & continued their winning run that now stretches to 3 league games & a cup game, but Hanworth Villa certainly made the Brook work hard for the 3 points particularly in the 2nd half.
With both teams looking for points to climb out of the relegation places it was not unexpected that the opening 15 minutes saw both teams looking to retain possession & keep mistakes to a minimum.
But as the half progressed it was the Brook who were enjoying the majority of the ball with the midfield of debutant Stuart Muldrew,Jack Roper & George Harmes working well together & providing some decent balls to Lu Ndovi & Victor Montes.Whilst the Brook looked the more likely to open the scoring the visitors defence was looking solid & making life hard for Nathan Dennis to get any clear chances.Nathan was working extremely hard but was suffering from a lack of support which saw moves break down as he was regularly isolated up front.
The break through came on 30 minutes for the Brook as Victor Montes received the ball on the right wing, cut inside & fired the ball in,cross or shot only he will truly know, but the ball shot over Buss in the Hanworth goal. 1-0
The Brook were by now dominating the game & should have increased their lead on 36 minutes when Muldrew found Nathan Dennis but his shot was well saved by Buss.
Half-Time came with the Brook still leading 1-0 but with the spectators hoping they wouldn't rue the several missed scoring opportunities.
If the Brook were the dominant side in the 1st half fortunes turned in the 2nd as Hanworth clearly took on board their managers half-time comments & proceeded to apply pressure on the home defence.
On 48 mins a fierce shot from half-time substitute Navaro saw the ball thump against the home crossbar with home keeper Cameron Kennedy well beaten & the rebound was put behind for a corner which the Brook defence comfortably cleared.
As regularly occurs when one side is pushing for a goal it is the other side who score & on 55 minutes the Brook increased their lead when the ball broke for George Harmes on the right of the area & he placed his shot across Buss into the left hand corner for his 1st goal for the Brook & the team's 2nd.
Hanworth Villa continued to have the better of the half & on 65 minutes an excellent shot from Navaro,25 yards out flew past Kennedy to reduce the arrears.2-1
Under the visitors pressure the Brooks passing & ball retention became sloppy.putting extra pressure on the home defence but all 4 players.Charlie Howes,Kildane Tesfu,Haluna Masembe & Austin Schofield, making his 1st appearance after injury since August remained solid & restricted Hanworth to shots from outside the box. When on the rare occasion they were beaten the visitors found keeper Cameron Kennedy his usual brave & competent self.
Although Hanworth showed great endeavor & continued pushing for the equalizer the Brook held out & could even have added a 3rd goal on 85 minutes when Victor Montes's shot was well saved by Buss who tipped the ball over the bar for a cirner which was cleared.F-T 2-1
A tough game for the Brook but over the 90 minutes I think they deserved the victory.
However the 3 points didn't enable us to move out of the relegation places & our next 3 games are against the sides currently occupying 2nd,3rd & 4th places but with the confidence we have gained by winning our last 3 league games & turning out a much settled team this writer has every confidence we will continue to improve & play our way out of trouble.
