Brook & Lobsters share the points in a match played in horrendous conditions.
Another fine performance from the Brook saw them held by 3rd placed Redhill as both sides put on a good display in very adverse weather conditions.
Despite the entire game being played in continuous rain & freezing cold both sides played some excellent football.
With the Brook looking for points to assist their rise up the table & Redhill needing points to remain in the title chase the game lent itself to an attacking match. It was Redhill who looked the stronger in the opening minutes & put the visiting defence under pressure, but with the Brook back four looking solid they were unable to capitalize on their possession.
As the half progressed the Brook were able to exert their own pressure but were unable to create any meaningful scoring opportunities. However it was the home side who broke the deadlock when in the 27th minute they were awarded a very dubious penalty when Kidanr Tesfu made a fine defensive tackle only to see the Redhill forward fall over leading to the referee pointing to the spot.Tony Halsey, the penalty taker made no mistake from the spot.1-0
The set back roused the Brook who put in some dangerous crosses which were well dealt with by the home defence.
With the half drawing to a close the Brook equalized on 40 minutes when they won a corner from which for once the Redhill defence failed to clear & the ball fell for MICHAEL O'NEILL who shot into the roof of the net for his 1st goal for AFC Hayes.
2 minutes later the Brook should have taken the lead when Nathan Dennis was put through on goal but his shot went past the post.H-T 1-1
With no let up in the weather the 2nd half started with a marked deterioration in the pitch but both teams continued to play some excellent football in the horrendous conditions.
The Brook took the lead on 49 minutes when they earned a corner which again the home side failed to deal with & the ball dropped for MICHAEL O'NEILL on the edge of the box who fired low past the diving Trivino's left hand to score his & the Brook's 2nd goal.1-2
There was no let up in the weather or in both teams desire to attack & on 65 minutes Redhill thought they had equalized only to see the flag raised for offside.
Redhill finally equalized in the 75th minute when a sliced Ashley Snadden corner eluded the Brook cover & went straight into the net at the near post eluding the despairing dive of the Brook keeper Josh Bramwell.2-2
The final 15 minutes saw both teams striving for the winner but with both defences looking solid the game ended as a 2-2 draw.
Credit must be given to the attitude of both teams who played some excellent football in truly horrendous conditions.
