AFC Hayes narrowly lose to 2nd placed Sutton Common Rovers
A competitive game saw the Brook lose by a single goal.
SCR started the match very strongly & on 7 minutes Josh Bramwell had to make a save to keep them out.
The home side were mainly relying on the long ball trying to pressurize the Brook defence & allow their forwards to run onto the ball & in the early stages they had a lot of success as the Brook defence took time to adjust to these tactics.
Gradua lly as the half progressed the Brook countered this tactic & began to gain more ball possession but were unable to turn the possession into scoring opportunities.
As half-time approached it looked as if the teams would go in all square but on 45 minutes a reckless tackle by Harry Bishop some 25 yards out saw SCR awarded a free kick. The kick was taken by Nes Bellikli whose well struck shot beat the diving Bramwell to send the home side into a 1-0 lead at half-time.
The 2nd half saw the Brook have more of the possession but still unable to convert this into goals. It was the home side who looked more like adding to their single goal & on 65 minutes saw a fine shot hit the Brook crossbar but the rebounded clear.
The Brook's best opportunity came on 70 minutes when a Lusungu Ndovi shot was fumbled by Jack Meredith in the home goal but there was no-one following up as the ball was cleared.
With the game in time added on Victor Montes curled an excellent round the SCR keeper but the ball hit the post & was scrambled clear/FT 1-0
