Heavy pitch and fog cant stop the Fishermen

There was an air of doubt as the ref decided he wanted to wait until the last minute to see if the fog cleared enough to play at Elm Park in Filton this Sunday, luckily for all who got up it was judged to be good to go.

The game seemed very lethargic for the first 15 or so minutes with both teams sliding around and not getting up to speed in boggy conditions.

The game however exploded in to life after around 30 minutes when Ben Purdy blasted home from close range after Rangers failed to clear Craig Sutton's long throw.

A few minutes later it was Sutton himself on the score sheet tucking in the rebound from Purdy's effort after a corner caused mayhem in the home teams box.

Before Rangers had a chance to work out what had happened it was three, another corner was bundled around in the box before Craig Sutton picked up a second assist with a back heel that was more Xavi than Keown taking out all the defenders so that Martin Withey could fire home.

The second half was nearly off to a flyer when debutant Zach Dorrington robbed a defender on the edge of his own box and curled the ball in to the top corner, only to see it chalked off after the defender called on the newly discovered ball didn't leave the box rule ala Joe Hart.

Shortly after Bristol Rangers were given a chance to get back in the game after the ref awarded a penalty against Jay Powell for tripping a striker, after the ref ignored the linesmans flag. Powell to his credit jumped up and saved the penalty.

Swanson put the game beyond any come back when he rolled the ball part the keeper from close range, taking a nasty whack in the process.

The Rangers did get a reward for their efforts when a square pass along the six yard line was turned in from close range.

The K's turned around quickly and Withey floated a cross in to the box that was turned in by Dorrington to make sure he did start with a goal.

Bristol Rangers had the final say with a late penalty, this time dispatched perfectly in to the corner.

The K's were delighted to have handed debuts to Zach and Joe Treherne both putting on fine displays.

The post match vote saw Martin Withey and Craig Sutton pick up a joined man of the match award.
