In difficult gale force conditions it was Shrewsbury who got into the game quickly, forcing Telford back with some sustained pressure. It wasn't long before the Shrews had the lead either, with the desperate attempts to block the ball by keeper Phil Barnett and midfielders Nick Turner, Chris Catling and Ian Dawes not enough to rpevent the goal.
Telford, who were playing in their new name and numbered shirts for the first time fought back and a flick on from Turner looked set to of played Matthew Bethell through on goal for the equaliser but as he got his shot away he was two footed on his ankle and after seeing his shot hit the post and go to safety the Bucks top scorer was on the floor in agony, and was to play no further part in the game. He was repalced by Nick Medlicott.
As Bethell as playing as a lone striker this change did not affect the Bucks game plan and Telford soon found themselves level through the hard work and persistance of Medlicott. Chasing a lost cause down he just kept the ball in play inside the box, before cutting back around the defender and lashing home past the keeper at his near post. The game remained level until half time.
The second half continued to be an even affair, with both teams having numerous chances to put their noses in front. Sadly for Telford it was Shrewsbury who got themselves in fron after a mad six yard box melee saw the ball cleared off the line three times before it was smashed home at the fourth attempt.
Telford continued to probe but didn't seem to have an edge that was needed to get a second goal, and in a increasing stronger wind struggled to get the ball towards goal as the wind ensured any clearance ended up in throw after throw for Telford.
The game finished two one to Telford's fierce rivals, with the Bucks losing the league game and crashing out of the cup.
