Plenty of goals in positive weekend for all squads.

This past weekend saw another busy schedule for the academy with the majority of the youth development squads involved in fixtures. First up to play were the U23’s with a home fixture against Rhosllanerchrugog in the North East Wales premier league. After an even first half, Airbus went in at half time with a 1-0 lead after a goal from centre forward Ollie Lancley but after the break the young wingmakers came out firing and scored a quick hatrick of goals in the first seven minutes of the second half. First to score was Harvey Ellis to continue his good scoring form this season, a penalty soon followed which was slotted coolly by Lee Jones and then Harvey Ellis got his second of the game two minutes later. Rhos got themselves a goal on the hour mark but any chance of a comeback was soon spoilt as Ollie Lancley got his second goal. The goal scoring was not finished as Liam Schofield got his customary goal with twenty minutes to go to ensure of the three points.
Our other pro-development phase squad were in action as the U19’s played Conwy Borough at the Airfield Sunday afternoon in the Welsh Premier Development league. Richard Chapman’s squad were in good form as they came out easy winners with an 8-2 victory. Centre half Joe Davies started the scoring with a good finish after 20 minutes to take the lead but Conwy were soon back on even terms when a under hit back pass was intercepted by the Conwy striker to finish. A super run from Blake Robinson took him passed a number of Conwy players and he finished brilliantly to put the wingmakers back in the lead at half time. As the U23’s did the day before, the u19’s came at strongly in the second half and scored early when George Peers tapped in close range to make it 3-1. Conwy however again pinned Airbus back to a one goal lead ten minutes later when they scored a good goal after a quick counter attack. The game was then quickly put to bed when Liam Schofield produced a superb quick fire hat trick in an electrifying six minute period from the Wingmakers. Matters soon got worse for Conwy as they scored an own goal to make it seven and with 10 minutes to go Liam Schofield rounded off a good performance with his fourth.
Also playing Sunday were our 13, 15 and 16’s squads who had friendly fixtures due to a break in the academy cup programme. Early Sunday morning the 16’s played Rhyl FC at the Hollingsworth group stadium and produced their best performance for a while with a convincing 4-1 win against the North Wales Coast team. First team coach Steve O’Shaughnessy’s son Dylan scored with Stuart Mcharrie getting a brace and Owen Payne getting the other goal. The U15’s also played at the Airfield with a game against Cefn Druids and another victory came for the Young Wingmakers with a 2-1 win, Grant Faure and Matty Wardell getting the goals to continue the squads good form this season. Result of the day came from our U13’s with a superb 6-0 victory away at Connahs Quay Nomads. Coach Dave Riley was extremely pleased with the squads performance to score six but also keep the clean sheet against a good Nomads side. Jake Stalker (2), Ellis Haldon (2), Tom Yoxall and Leo Branch got the goals on the day.
