Development squad go top of the league.

It was another weekend full of fixtures for the academy which included trips along the coast to Llandudno and Caernarfon. The primary squads were first up as they made the trip to Maesdu Park to play The Seasiders. Our newly formed 7’s squad gave a much improved performance against a strong Llandudno side and although they lost 8-3, a number of promising signs were there throughout the game for the Young wingmakers as they looked to play out from the back and move the ball well under pressure. Tom Wright got two of the goals for Airbus with Oscar Williams getting the third and Oscar was awarded m.o.m for Airbus by the Llandudno coach. Coach Gaz Williams’s team were unlucky not to get themselves some more goals as they hit the woodwork three times and also made the Llandudno keeper make some excellent saves but overall a pleasing performance from our youngest squad. The U9’s were also involved in a tightly contested game with just a brief period in the second period where they lost a little concentration which allowed the home side to score a couple of unanswered goals to break away. The final score ended up 4-1 but another strong performance from a squad that are continuing to improve. The Airbus goal on the day was scored by Evan Hewitt who was also awarded the M.O.M award. Also playing Saturday were the 10’s who continued their good form with a 3-1 victory. The wingmakers scored goals in all three periods and looked to control the game throughout. Goals came from Toby Lemon, Aiden Calby and Fin Lavery with Jack Fox Cody and Alexei Williams also standing out with their performance on the day.
The Youth teams had a busy weekend with two games across the weekend. First up Saturday, the Youth team were involved in a Newfa Presidents cup game at The Airfield against local neighbours Connahs Quay Nomads. It was an uphill battle from the start for Airbus as they conceded two goals in the first ten minutes to give the visitors the advantage and the task got even harder as Nomads score a third before the break. Airbus reduced the deficit early in the second half through a goal from Stuart McHarrie but the come back was short lived as an own goal put Connahs Quay back three goals up. Sunday saw the Development squad look to continue their winning run with a trip to Caernarfon in the Welsh Premier Development league. In a convincing performance, the Wingmakers returned with a 5-1 win after goals from Kai Hardcastle and George Peers (on his 18th birthday) in the first half, to which Ollie Lancley and Stu Mcharrie (2) added in the second half and this result put Richard Chapman’s and Mark Cowan’s squad top of the league.
Final game of the weekend came from our U15’s who were involved in an exciting game at The Airfield Sunday afternoon against Lancashire side JN Sports FC. After a strong start Airbus got themselves a three goal to nil lead after goals from Joel Kelly and a brace from Cameron White. However, JN Sports composed themselves and started to play some good football which lead to them getting a goal back from a long range shot and then a second followed shortly after when the visitors were awarded a penalty which they converted. Goals continued to come first half as the excellent Cameron White got his deserved hat trick after he finished coolly just before the break to increase the Airbus lead. However JN Sports kept going second half and put Airbus under plenty of pressure which eventually led to another converted penalty and in the dying moments of the game they got their deserved goal to level the game.
