Gareth Richards Youth Team celebrate a fabulous treble following friday nights brilliant 5-2 win over gap Connahs Quay.

In what was arguably, the game of the season, the U18 squad came away 5-2 winners in the Flintshire Derby that decided the destination of the Flintshire Youth League Cup.

Nomads opened the scoring in an end to end game as Tom Bibby squared for Josh Jones to tap into an un guarded net. The young wingmakers soon had the game level as Dom Doherty cooly found the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

The second half saw the game continue to be played at a frantic pace, with chances at either end. However, it was Connahs Quay who again went in front as Jones grabbed his second of the night.

The wingmakers weren't to be denied though as they continued to carve out a number of good chances. Captain Danny Burgess saw his header cleared off the line and Callum Burridge also went agonisingly close to an equaliser. The equaliser did come for Airbus, but from an unlikely source. A lofted free kick into the box was turned into the net by Nomads captain Chris Boyes. An unfortunate occurrence for a player who up until that point hadn't put a foot wrong in the game.

With the game seemingly meandering towards extra time, it soon sparked into life with ten minutes remaining. Jamie Roberts flashed an effort over keeper Liam Tarran, but Tarran's quick reactions saw him somehow paw the ball over the bar and out for a corner. In response Callum Burridge hammered another long range effort at goal, but this time it was the turn of Nomads stopper Jordan Manley to play hero as he produced a superb stop to keep the scores level.

George Rathbone went closest to winning the game for the wingmakers. An excellent cross from Doherty evaded everyone and with the goal at his mercy Rathbone's header shaved the outside of the post!! With only seconds remaining, Nomads created one last chance of their own. A long ball forward found Josh Jones looking to complete his second hat trick in as many weeks against Airbus, but the wingmakers keeper came up with probably the most decisive save of the night. Somehow Tarran managed to spread himself and get enough on the ball to divert it out for a corner.

In extra time the wingmakers, looked composed and the more likely team to force a winner. The defining moment came after 6 minutes in the second period of extra time. A superb James Murphy cross found Dom Doherty at the back post and he planted is header past Manley to give the wingmakers the lead!! The lead was extended not long after when substitute Ellis Doughty blocked the goalkeepers clearance and saw it fly into the net. The celebrations really began in earnest when Doughty bagged his second. With Nomads pushing bodies forward in search of a goal, Doughty latched onto a through ball and calmly lobbed the on rushing Manley to wrap up an incredible season for the U18!!
