Tadley (18) v (12) Alchester

A patchy performance from Alchester saw them lose to Tadley in the last 20 minutes of the game.

Despite a promising start, with a try after 7 minutes from Ieuan Robinson following a half break from centre Tom Miles, full back Robin Tyreman sprinting down the left wing to then pop the ball out to the winger. Miles was unable to convert in very windy conditions.

Although Alcester’s pack was dominating much of the forward play and in the scrum Alchester were not able to add to the score.

Tadley hit back with an unconverted try of their own on 27 minutes but the last 10 minutes of the half became a scrappy affair with neither side putting together any real phases of play.

All level at 5 -5 at half time

Again the second half started quite well for the visitors with a missed opportunity on 42 minutes as several Alchester players found themselves over the Tadley try line but miscommunication and fumbled passes meant that nobody was able to ground the ball Tadley where able to clear their lines.

Alcester’s second try came on 60 minutes when prop Charlie Surman scurried over down the blindside off the back of another scrum 5 metres out.

Tadley then seemed to get the better passages of play and although Alchester defended well on their own 22, the run of play was against them.

A penalty on 63 minutes and two more unconverted tries from Tadley closed the game out for the home side.

A mention should go Alchester hooker, Garrick Kimber, whose strength and rucking skills did much to win his team the ball at the breakdowns.
