Aldwinians vs Liverpool St Helens
Sunday 18th April was the last game of the season for the Under 13s who have made great progress throughout the year. Today’s opposition were Liverpool St Helens at Rochdale in the Lancashire County Blacksticks Vase Final. Captain Jack Gleeson won the toss and Aldwinians kicked off to LSH’s larger pack. The tackling was good and the initial exchanges took place in midfield with both teams giving no ground. The Aldwinians pack gained possession in the loose letting the backs have the first taste of the ball. As it was passed through the hands the LSH centre came up quickly an intercepted the ball to race under the posts for the opening try.
This got the LSH team on the front foot with two more tries quickly followed by moving the ball out wide and Aldwinians ran out of defenders.
The Aldwinians forwards began to settle down and put pressure on LSH keeping them in their own 22 for long periods of time but unfortunately were unable to breach the defense to cross the try line.
The second half was much like the first with LSH striking quickly and running in tries in quick succession but the poor tackling by Aldwinians helped their cause. Deep into the second period Aldwinians again pressured the LSH try line to no avail and tired legs towards the end of the game told with LSH scoring more tries. The LSH manager realized this and to his credit shuffled his team accordingly.
Congratulations to LSH who won the game 63-0 but Aldwinians who had no subs on the day never gave up working so we look forward to building on this for next season.
Well done to all the lads.
