News of the pre- season matches

The last week of pre- season matches before the formal league and cup structures commence for the 1sts and U18s saw a full match schedule for Allan Glen’s Senior and U18 squads, with the 2nds playing their opening league fixture at home.

The Senior players and U18s have been training together in pre-season under the guidance of Head Coach Ewan Smith with assistance from Brian Heneghan and the collective efforts paid off in all 3 matches in the late August sun.

Healthy support for Allan Glens 1st XV, at the Bearyards, saw a final score of 71-45 reflecting the fast flowing approach from the home side versus visitors Cambuslang. The new players at Glens fitted in well and the efforts during pre-season shall hopefully bode well for the season ahead.

Meanwhile on the adjacent 2nds park a strong mix of youth with age and experience from the 2nds squad saw Allan Glen’s finish stronger with a score line of 46-7. Paisley were strong in areas however the Glen’s backs always found the pace to outflank when the opportunity was provided by quick ball from the forwards.

The post-match cheer was further strengthened when the U18 squad arrived back from Kilmarnock to report a 45-22 win. Kilmarnock is a hard place to achieve a win and this effort prepares the boys for their 1st league match versus Uddingston, taking place as the Warriors v Leinster opener on Saturday 6th September, at Scotstoun. Anyone with a ticket for the main match is welcome to arrive early to support the young Glen’s Boys. KO is at 15:30.
