A hard day at the office

The 1XV had a long and weary day of travel to Newton Stewart on Saturday, with Michael Blackwood and Levi Ekevati making their debuts for the firsts. The home forwards dominated in the first half with NS leading 36 to 3. The second half was more promising for the Glens but finished 50 points to 8 with the Glens getting the last score of the match. (The first team who travelled to Newtonmore had more success in the Camanachd Cup we’re told!)

U18s had a late fixture change and found themselves playing against Peebles on Saturday. Glens were 14 points up after twenty minutes but the home side pulled back the score line to 21-14 at half time. The final score line of 33-22 reflected the exceptional play on the field and as the Peebles coach was heard to comment, “it was a fantastic game of rugby”. Tighthead prop, Blair Easdon, emptied rucks like a bowling ball to skittles and the forwards were outrageous. Our U18s were pitched against a class outfit and every man stepped up to the challenge.

The U-15s suffered a 60-12 defeat to West in their Cup tie, on Sunday morning. However, there is still silverware to play for as they continue in the Bowl competition.

Despite suffering 2 defeats to Bishopton/Clydebank, the S1/S2 held themselves up remarkably well for the only the second time they have played as a squad. Special mention to Peter Keenan and Harry Nelson for their play on the park.

Honours go to the Glenzie U16s team this week for their match against Argyll; and in particular Joe Ross for his fantastic kicking. The boys started very well with a score line of 35-0 approaching half time. The away side came into the game after half time and Glenzie had to step up their game for the final score of 52-15.

Our Mini’s had a morning of training in preparation for hosting their first fixtures of the season, next Sunday.

And finally... on a lighter note, young Christopher Stevenson and Aleksander Alfer were eager to lend a hand on Saturday. (It's amazing what the promise of a packet of crisps and a drink will achieve!!!)

After the late call off for the 2s game against Marr, due to no referee being available, they were "persuaded" to bring in the post protectors and flags. Christopher choose to collect all the flags by himself. A big job for a wee guy!! Well done, Christopher!!!!
