Allan Glens 1XV had a tough game, this week, but undoubtedly the opposition, Carrick, were the better side. The visitors took most of their chances whilst Glen’s tended to make a mistake at the final pass.
Carrick had possession for virtually the whole of the first twenty minutes and they finally managed to breach a stubborn home defence with a driving maul and a try, followed by a conversion. Five minutes later Carrick scored again after steady pressure by the visiting backs, and converted.
Glen’s lineout was more than holding its own with Frame and Johnston taking well but it is the first time for a while that the home scrum has been under pressure. Glen’s held out till half time leaving the visitors with a 14 point lead.
Carrick scored again just after the restart. There followed a period of intense competition where defences of both sides held their line but fifteen minutes from time Carrick scored two tries in quick succession. A conversion left Glen’s scoreless, with six minutes to go. At this point, Glen’s appeared to come to life and Ekevati burst through the centre to put points on the board for Glen’s. Thomson converted. A minute later a break again by Ekevati allowed Thomson to pick up a loose ball and sprint over for a try. His conversion attempt was controversially disallowed. Final score Allan Glens 1XV 12 – Carrick 35.
Some new faces turned out to bolster the side for Allan Glens 2XV – well maybe new is the wrong word for some of the stalwarts that took the field for a friendly against West of Scotland 3rd XV on Saturday. But amongst old hands Cubby, Alex Moore and Stevie Hearns, some fresh youngsters put in some notable performances. While the scores all belonged to West the honour went to Glens as they kept defending to the end. Final score Allan Glens 2XV 0 – West of Scotland 46.

Our Under 18’s are still undefeated with another convincing victory against Cambuslang/Strathaven, this weekend. 10 tries were scored and 7 conversions. Shortly into the 2nd half with a points difference of 60, the coaches decided to mix the teams and play out the rest of the game as a friendly. Final score 60 – 0.

U18 try scorers were Peter Burns x 2, Jack Dallas, Nic Buonaccorsi x 2, Kieran Laverty, Scott Hughes, Jack Cavan, Fraser Moore and Aidan McMillan.

Glenzie U16s make it 4 wins from 4! Thanks to strong support play and rucking from the forwards, Glenzie ran up a healthy lead against Cumnock/Cartha with a half-time score of 34-5. After the break, Cumnock started to assert themselves in the game, scoring a further three tries before the final whistle. Final score 39-24.
Definitely a game of two halves and Glenzie need to address their concentration lapses if they are to continue competing at the top of the table.
U15's long awaited competition fixture against Irvine was conceded as the visitors were unable to field a side. With a number of the Glens boys fielded for the opposition, a development game was played which finished 62-5 to the home team. Special thanks to those boys who donned the opposition colours for the game to go ahead. The U15s will now play their semi-final game, away to Dumfries, later in the season.

S1/S2s combined played Uddingston and lost by 4 tries to 1. Great effort from the four S1s who stepped up and played their first competitive match against S2 opposition.

The team played really well in the second of three sessions but unfortunately poor tackling let Uddingston in for a couple of soft tries which flattered the visitors. Overall, great team spirit and determination to build upon.
