As the score implies this was a very hard fought semi final of the West Regional Shield competition. It was also a game of two halves as Greenock scored all their points in the first half leaving Glen's to all but catch up in the second half. The difference between the final scores was down to two conversions. Lineout honours were shared but Glen's had the edge in the scrums and driving mauls.
The visitors opened the scoring with a penalty by A. G.Guthrie who repeated the process a few minutes later. Glen's immediately replied with a penalty by Scott Thomson.
On the thirtieth minute Greenocks persistance paid off when John Bellows ran from the the halfway line eluding the home defence for the first try of the match which Guthrie duly converted.
Another penalty was awarded to Glen's which Thomson stroked over. Just before the half time whistle Brendan Gorkey drove over giving Guthrie an easy kick for the additional points making the score at the break 6 - 20.
This was to be Glen's half and not long after the restart a huge effort by the home forwads gave them a score through a drive over maul unfortunately well out on the wing. Ten minutes later Alistair McConnell finished off a good back move from the visitors 22 line to touch down, again well out on the wing, to finish the days scoring.
The last few minutes saw Glen's having persistant pressure on the Greenock line but the visitors defence held out to narrowly win the game.
